Luis Villalobos is the founder of the Tech Coast Angels,
the largest angel group in the country, with ~270 members in Los Angeles,
Orange County, San Diego, Santa Barbara and Westlake. In the 7 years since
its founding, TCA members have invested $55 million of personal capital
in 85 Southern California ventures, coupled with $536 million from co-investors.
Villalobos has a strong technology background and a proven
track record as direct investor in 52 early-stage ventures; with 4 IPOs,
8 mergers, and 23 remaining active. He formed, headed and sold two ventures;
and has mentored about a dozen CEOs.
He selectively coaches CEOs and consults on patents; he
holds several patents as lead inventor and as technology consultant helped
two ventures obtain blocking patents. He conducts workshops for angels,
entrepreneurs and MBAs, on early-stage funding, valuations, business plans,
term sheets, deal structures, due diligence and entrepreneurship. Villalobos
is frequently quoted in the press regarding angel investing, and has been
an invited speaker at more than sixty events.
He is a founding Board member of the Angel Capital Association
- an organization that lists 120 angel groups.
He earned degrees at Harvard Business School and MIT where
he was a National Merit Scholar. |
